Topping off ceremony

April 24 marked the day that one of the last beams (and the one at the highest point on the steel structure) was raised into position. The ceremony included lunch for the construction crews, signing the beam, attaching the U.S. flag and an evergreen tree (symbolizing growth and bringing luck), and then hoisting the beam into position. Once in position, the bolters who connect the beam to the frame shake hands.
